Lip Fillers and Cheek Fillers : Juvederm Voluma Vollure Volbella

What is JUVÉDERM XC?

Non-surgical filler

JUVÉDERM XC is a non-surgical dermal filler, initially approved in 2006, to instantly smooth out the lines along the sides of your nose and mouth. It can provide natural-looking results for up to a year with optimal treatment.

Modified form of Hyaluronic Acid

JUVÉDERM XC is made from a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), manufactured using proprietary HYLACROSS™ technology. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found on your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM XC is also formulated with lidocaine for a more comfortable treatment experience.

What are the different types of wrinkles?

There are two types of wrinkles:

Dynamic wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are caused when muscles contract to make facial expressions such as smiles and frowns.

Static wrinkles

Static wrinkles develop because our skin’s natural substances (such as collagen and hyaluronic acid), which provide structure and volume, decrease over time.

What is collagen?

Collagen is a protein that is the most abundant and widely distributed protein in the human body. It makes up about one-third of the protein in the body and is found in the skin, bones, muscles, tendons, and other connective tissues.

Collagen provides structure and support to these tissues, helping to keep them strong and elastic. It also plays a key role in wound healing and helps to keep the skin looking firm, plump, and youthful.

There are many different types of collagen, but most are composed of three protein chains that wind around each other to form a triple helix structure. Collagen can be found in various forms, including fibrillar collagen, which forms long, thin fibers that give tissues strength and support, and basement membrane collagen, which forms a thin, sheet-like layer that helps to separate different types of tissues.

Collagen can be produced by the body or obtained from external sources, such as supplements or skincare products. It is often used in cosmetic treatments to help improve the appearance of the skin, as well as in medical treatments to repair or regenerate damaged tissues.

What is collagen good for?

Collagen is beneficial for several aspects of health, including skin, bone, joint, and gut health. Here are some of the specific benefits of collagen:

  1. Skin health: Collagen helps to maintain the skin’s elasticity and firmness, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also helps to protect the skin from damage caused by UV radiation and other environmental factors.

  2. Bone and joint health: Collagen is a key component of bone and cartilage tissue, and it helps to keep bones and joints strong and flexible. It can help reduce joint pain and stiffness, improve mobility, and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

  3. Gut health: Collagen may help to improve gut health by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut and reducing inflammation. It may also help to improve digestion and reduce symptoms of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

  4. Muscle mass and recovery: Collagen may help to improve muscle mass and strength, as well as aid in post-workout recovery.

  5. Hair and nail health: Collagen can help to improve the strength and health of hair and nails, reducing brittleness and breakage.

What is JUVÉDERM XC approved for?

Lip Filler Richmond Virginia

JUVÉDERM XC  fillers are approved for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth), and smile and laugh lines.

Juvederm is commonly used for:

Facial folds and wrinkles:

Dermal fillers are an excellent complement to Botox® injections because they correct a different type of wrinkle. Combining the two treatments with a chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing can help improve all your wrinkles.

Restoring facial volume with cheek fillers:

As we age, our faces naturally lose volume and gravity takes hold. This gives the face a drawn, tired appearance. Cheek fillers can be used to fill in areas that have lost volume, restoring a youthful fullness to your face.

Lip Fillers:

The lips also tend to lose volume as we age. Thin lips can create an older, sterner appearance. Lip fillers can be used to restore a youthful volume to the lips.

Facial reshaping:

Some people do not have the facial shape they desire and, in many cases, this can be at least partly corrected with dermal fillers which can give the appearance of higher cheekbones or a stronger chin and jawline.

Very Fine Lines: Fine

lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyebrow, eyes and cheeks can be reduced. These include Smile lines, Laugh Lines, Marionette lines, and Vertical lip wrinkles.

How are Juvederm injections performed?

JUVÉDERM XC injections are performed in the office and usually take about 30 minutes. The injection site will be cleansed. Ice is then placed over the area to be treated to make the experience more pleasant and to constrict the surrounding blood vessels to minimize the chances of bruising. If the lips are to be injected, a lip block may be performed for a more pleasant experience.

JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler is injected into the dermis of skin using an ultra-fine needle to temporarily fill in the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles. Slight pain, short-lasting swelling, and minimal redness and bleeding may occur as a result of your procedure. Touch -up injections in 2 to 3 weeks may be required to achieve optimum results.

How long does dermal filler last?

Correction is temporary and may last up to one year with optimal treatment. Therefore, touch-up injections, as well as repeat injections, are usually needed to maintain optimal results.

How long does Juvederm Voluma last in lips?

Juvederm Voluma is a dermal filler primarily used to add volume and lift to the cheeks. It is not specifically designed for the lips. Juvederm offers other products specifically designed for lip enhancement, such as Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Volbella.

The duration of any dermal filler’s results can vary from person to person. Generally, Juvederm Voluma is known to last longer than some other fillers due to its thicker and more robust formulation. In the cheeks, Juvederm Voluma can last anywhere from 18 to 24 months, depending on individual factors like metabolism, lifestyle, and the amount injected.

For lip fillers like Juvederm Ultra and Volbella, the duration of results is usually around 4 to 8 months.

What are the side effects of dermal fillers?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reaction such as redness, pain or tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps or bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a rare risk of infection.

What are the differences between JUVÉDERM XC, JUVEDERM ULTRA XC, and JUVEDERM VOLUMA XC Fillers?

  • JUVÉDERM XC is a non-surgical dermal filler used to instantly smooth out moderate to severe lines along the sides of your nose and mouth. Natural-looking results may last up to one year with optimal treatment.
  • JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC is the first and only FDA approved non-surgical dermal filler to last up to one year in lip augmentation (enlargement) with optimal treatment.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC is the first injectable gel that is FDA-approved to instantly correct age-related volume loss in the cheek area for people over 21. It adds volume, creating contour and lift for up to two years with optimal treatment.

What is the difference between BOTOX and JUVÉDERM XC?

Botox Near Me

BOTOX Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® XC are two possible ways to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Both are non-surgical, but they work differently:

BOTOX Cosmetic injected beneath the skin

BOTOX Cosmetic is injected beneath the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle activity which is one of the causes of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet. BOTOX Cosmetic temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles.

JUVÉDERM XC injected into the skin

JUVÉDERM XC is injected into the skin to temporarily fill and smooth moderate to severe wrinkles such as those around the nose and mouth. What makes Juvederm different from other dermal fillers?

JUVÉDERM XC is the only Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to last up to one year with optimal treatment, and JUVÉDERM XC was studied in all skin types. The unique manufacturing process uses HYLACROSS™ technology to provide a high concentration of cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid.

Juvéderm Vollure XC is the first and only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved for the correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, like the nasolabial folds, that lasts up to 18 months in people over the age of 21.

Effects of Juvéderm Vollure XC

According to an exciting clinical trial featuring the dermal filler Juvéderm Vollure XC:

  • 82 percent of patients were very satisfied after six months
  • 68 percent of patients were satisfied at 18 months
  • 59 percent of subjects saw improvement in nasolabial folds for up to 18 months

These findings are significant because most fillers last only about a year with lower patient satisfaction scores.

Formulated with VYCROSS Technology

JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is formulated with Allergan’s proprietary VYCROSS technology.

What is VYCROSS technology?

VYCROSS technology blends different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid allowing this dermal filler to last longer. Also, JUVÉDERM VOLLUMA designed to increase volume lost due to aging of the cheeks and JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC designed for lip augmentation and correction of perioral rhytids use VYCROSS technology.

Expectations from Juvederm Vollure

As fillers improve, you get to expect a longer correction and smoother correction. The patented Vycross technology blends different molecule weights to achieve a particularly smooth result. Vycross cross-linking makes the fillers more malleable and easier to inject, further improving the outcome. Juvederm Vollure contains lidocaine for injection comfort.

Uses of Vollure

Vollure is used for moderate to severe lines in the mid-face including:

  • Laugh Lines
  • Marionette Lines
  • Horizontal Chin Lines

How is Vollure Different from Voluma?

Vollure maintains correction and allows easy movement in the treated area with a molecule weight mix specific for this area. Voluma is weighted heavier than Vollure and is not as elastic in nature. Volume replacement in the cheek is not subject to the same repeated movements in the mouth area, so a dermal filler that is stiffer, like Voluma, works best for cheek augmentation.

Use of Denser Fillers

Generally, you can expect the denser fillers to be used in areas that require deeper levels of product injection and thinner fillers to be used in areas that are frequently mobile.

Juvederm’s four formulas, Juvederm XC (lines and folds), Volbella (lips and lip lines), Vollure (midface moderate to severe lines) and Voluma (cheeks) all are designed to give you the best results in the areas they have been developed for.

What are the risks of using dermal fillers?

The most common risks or side effects seen in the clinical study were temporary injection site redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, lumps/bumps, redness, pain, discoloration, and itching. Most side effects are mild or moderate and last 7 days or less.

One should limit strenuous exercise, exposure to extensive sun or heat, and alcoholic beverages within the first 24 hours following treatment.

Where Do Hollywood Celebrities Get their Filler?

Apart from using Dermal fillers for a non-surgical nose job, Hollywood celebrities have been getting dermal filler injections to all the usual places. Traditional areas for injection include cheeks, lips, and facial wrinkles. Did you know that there are several other areas that you can get dermal filler injections? Celebrities have been injecting these areas for years with amazing results.

The EarsWoman Earlobe Dermal Filler

Reason

Over time, just like the rest of our bodies, our earlobes lose volume, sag, wrinkle and become less firm.

Benefits

Adding a dermal filler helps fill the earlobes and make them fuller, firmer and appear more youthful. The filler helps provide support and structure around the ear piercing to support larger and heavier earrings.

How Long Does It Last?

How long the filler will last depends on which filler is used and how quickly one metabolizes the filler. Dermal fillers can last six months to up to two years in the earlobes.

The Hands

Reason

As we age, the skin on the top of the hand becomes thinner with less subcutaneous fat. This causes the veins and tendons to become more visible. Age and sun damage also adds to wrinkle formation. The back of the hands can make you look older than you actually are.

Benefits

Dermal filler injections have been an excellent way to reduce these signs of aging. Hand models are doing this on a regular basis to keep their hands appearing young.

The Nipples

Reason

With time, nipples too become less firm and less erect.

Benefits

Hollywood celebrities have filler placed in their nipples because they are filming and want a little more of the nipple to show. Other women, just like having a more youthful appearance and feel their partner likes it.

The Temples

Reason

As we age or even lose weight, the temple area can hollow. This can make one look older, gaunt and unhealthy.

Benefits

Dermal filler injected into the temple hollows can round out the face giving a more healthy and pleasing look.

The Belly ButtonWoman Belly Button

Reason

Some people may develop indentations above or around their belly button. This can happen with age, weight loss or childbirth. The belly button can become stretched out and have wrinkles around it.

Benefits

Dermal fillers can fill these areas making the belly button-less wrinkled, more firm and have a more pleasant appearance.

The Under Eyes and Tear Trough Fillers

Reason

The under eyes are a very common area Hollywood celebrities and women, in general, get dermal fillers. The injections can improve the darkness and hollowness which makes you look tired and older. The younger you start, the better.

Benefits

When you start to get that indentation, that’s the time to start thinking about it, because then you only need a small amount. The overall effect is amazing

Cellulite

Reason

Many women suffer from cellulite. Cellulite is caused by fat pushing up against the connective tissue under the skin creating the appearance of dimpling.

Benefits

If there are specific areas, the release of the connective tissue and placement of a dermal fillers can help make the cellulite less visible.

The LabiaWoman Labia

Reason

Just like every other part of your body, the labia are susceptible to signs of aging. But changes in this intimate area are about more than just appearance. It is also about comfort. Luckily, “labia puffing” can address this.

Problems with labia majora

The labia majora (outer folds) wrinkle and lose elasticity and tone with time. This is caused by a decrease in estrogen levels that can be caused by both childbirth and menopause. Extreme weight loss can also lead to loss of labia fullness.

Problems with labia minora

As the labia majora continues to thin over time, the labia minora (inner folds) become more noticeable. This is more pronounced if they are darker or hang down past the edges of the labia majora. The total effect is that of a flat and sagging labia. This ages the overall appearance of the vulva.

Labia Puffing Using Dermal Fillers

The labia majora act as a cushion during sexual intercourse. The loss of tone and firmness in the labia majora can cause discomfort during sex because they are unable to protect you from excessive friction and impact. Labia puffing is the use of dermal filler injections to restore the appearance and function of your labia.

FDA-Approved Lip Fillers

Juvéderm® VOLBELLA XC is the latest advancement in the Juvéderm range of facial fillers, developed specifically for your lips and mouth area. It is the first and only FDA-approved lip filler to increase lip fullness and correct perioral lines for up to 1 year.  It has been specifically developed as a smooth gel to give a soft, natural feel. The gel fills in lip lines and wrinkles while the hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture, so results can last up to a year.

Why Choose Juvederm Volbella Lip Fillers?

Juvederm Volbella uses Vycross technology which tightens and cross-links the hyaluronic acid to improve duration. It has the lowest HA concentration, lowest affinity for water, and lowest cohesivity which makes a soft smooth gel appropriate for adding volume to lips and softening the appearance of the perioral lines.

Should I have My Botox and Fillers Done at the Same Time?

Chemodenervation, using Botox, prolongs the lasting effects of hyaluronic acid lip filler and cheek filler by reducing muscle activity in the treated area, according to a new study.  Aesthetic physicians have been known to use lip filler and cheek filler in combination with Botox to temporarily reduce muscle activity and prolong filler life.

Can I dissolve dermal fillers if I do not like the look?

Yes, dermal fillers can be reversed or dissolved if you are unhappy with the results or experience any unwanted side effects. This is typically done using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down hyaluronic acid fillers (the most common type of dermal filler). The process of reversing dermal fillers is relatively quick and straightforward, and typically involves injecting hyaluronidase into the area of the filler.

It’s important to note that not all types of dermal fillers can be easily reversed, and the process of reversing fillers can be more complicated and potentially riskier with non-hyaluronic acid fillers. Additionally, while hyaluronidase can quickly dissolve fillers, it may not completely remove all of the filler material, and some residual volume may remain.

If you are considering getting dermal fillers, it’s important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with Dr. DeConti and ensure that you have a clear understanding of what to expect before, during, and after treatment.
