The newest technology in breast implants is a 'cohesive gel' breast implant by Inamed-McGhan. This is a gel breast implant which feels like a natural breast. However, when the shell is cut or ruptured, it maintains its shape and the gel does not leak. The gel breast implants available now "bleed" or leak their contents if the shell is cut. Even though the FDA studies have shown this will not cause any medical problems, the 'cohesive gel' breast implant appears to be a better device for the future. They are currently only available in Europe. It is unknown when these breast implants will be available in the United States.
